I have used the same big book that was given to me my first week of sobriety so it is of course the 3rd edition. There are two small pieces of paper taped to the inside cover, that I put there at some point in my first couple of years. They are now as much a part of the book as the text.
The first one:
Your understanding is not required for Him to work, only your willingness.
The second one:
3- LAYERS
1. Body's Reaction
2. Mental Obsession
3. Spiritual Malady
- If I continue to act out with selfish ego
- Then I will have symptoms of the malady
- Then I will seek that sense of ease and comfort for relief

I remember that BB.
I could not believe how beat up it was.
I have a 4th edition -- with all my half-witted comments in the margin. Very dear to me.
I found a second edition and treasure it. Pretty clean though so I wonder what the story of that book is.

I find BB's in the thrift store all the time and I wonder who had them and what their story is too. I buy them and give them away. I love the BB and think it is useful for everyone....not just alcoholics. But everyone, because we all have our stuff, you know?
