We get what we seek

It was wonderful to watch a sponsee pick up her 18 month chip last night.  At the end of this month I will have the awesome privilege of watching another sponsee pick up a 15 year chip because yes, it works.

Do you know how old you are right off the top of your head?  I have a birthday at the end of this month and yesterday I had to pick up a calculator to figure out my age.  I was so pissed to learn that the age I thought I was all year is actually the age I'm turning at the end of the month.  I do however know my sobriety date almost to the minute.  Priorities I guess.

I guess it was real trendy in the early 80's to build a bar room in ones house because I have one.  When we moved in here 7 years ago, I had someone sheet rock over the opening of the bar that lead into the living room so that now it's just a small storage room with a cabinet and a little sink.  Anyway, it is my stockpile room for non perishables and I love to work on keeping it stocked when I find a bargain.  It is filled with cleaning products, paper products, rice, dry beans, etc.  Its also very organized and I love going in there and admiring my handy work.  This may be the year we have to start drawing from that room.  How wonderful that one of my hobbies is going to pay off.

Damn.  I have to hit the shower.  I believe this can be an extraordinary day if I seek joy in every hour.

Oh, the '80s. The housemate had a bar room once with a bar made of recycled sleeper wood and flags from countries she likes (America, South Africa, Great Britain) above the bottle shelf. As well as coasters with jokes on them and large ceramic ash trays. I put up the flags of countries she hated (Russia, Cuba, Haiti) and hid the ash trays. She used to have her friends around and play Elvis, Peter Sarstedt, Neil Diamond.

Long live the end of the bar room!

Ha, ha..the Dad's parents had a bar in their basement, with the obligatory pool table. It smelled weird down there.

My Mom was a teenager in post war Germany, and she is the queen of stockpiles. She still believes toilet paper may be rationed at any time.
I got my stockpiling habit from her!

My son has a bar in his basement - and it is very much in use. Also a purple pool table!

When he first moved in, even though he was single and had no prospects for that changing, when I looked at that room, I thought of the bar and the pool table being covered and the room being used as a child's playroom. Slowly, this is happening. YAY!

I am considering stockpiling. Even though I think I should have done it before . There are predictions of out of control inflation in our future. Eeee gads.

I'm going to join you on looking for that joy in the hour. I could use the companionship.

No bar, but my husband and I are cleaning and reorganizing the basement and part of the plan is for additional pantry space. I have a deep freeze and love being able to go "shopping" for dinner there rather than go to the store.

One year I called my mother and said to her: "I can't believe I'm 35!" "You're 36," she replied. She was right! I can't keep up either. Happy Birthday, and many more!

I'm glad that we don't have a bar room. It would be hard to get any sleep with all that neon flashing on and off all night long. I guess we could close at 2 AM. LOL.
