Stuffola

I am trying to put a 9th step workshop together for a convention.  I want to do a play of sorts, showing the preparation of the amends maker as well as the actual amends with good and bad reactions from the recipient.  Sounds easy right?  Yeah, it sounded easy to me too when I brought the idea to the committee.  It seems that I was very wrong about the "easy" part.  As it turns out, trying to convey the true meaning of humility in the 9th step process to the people portraying the "amends makers" has turned out to be quite challenging.  So, I've decided to do a 9th step workshop for the people doing the workshop. (sigh)  It's kind of difficult to explain humility isn't it?  I believe that humility is not the "low" thought of oneself but the "no" thought of oneself.  The group seemed to be of the opinion that a 9th step was to make a person feel better about them self.  That is a very "self centered" approach to a step that should be removed of self.  Anyway, I'll let y'all know how that goes.

I am grateful for these small pockets of service work where I am lucky enough to spend time with people early in recovery who have open minds and open hearts.  An eager group of addicts who just want to be a part of something bigger than themselves.  A fellowship of adults humbly asking God for a "do over".

I don't believe I've ever mentioned it before, but you remind me a lot of a woman in the program named Marie Stinner. She was big on the speaker circuit. Couldn't tell you if she is even still alive. But every time I read you, I hear her voice. That's a good thing.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I have heard that the amends is for me to keep my side of the street clean. Whether the other person accepts the amends is not a concern. I have done my part. That is how I understand it.
