Oh I Know That Feeling

Remember when words like Create, Love, Laugh and Dream were NOT hung as decor in peoples homes?  Jeez Louise enough already.  It's almost as bad as all the different crosses being hung on kitchen walls, over toilets and even outdoor fences.  How did the sign of Calvary and the death of Jesus become an ornament to be purchased at Target?

I felt mooshy mooshy love last night when a young woman shared in a meeting and she was obviously high.  Several "better than thous" were fidgeting and wringing their hands because someone "dared" to share in a meeting while so obviously under the influence.  She said she was sick to her stomach from seeing the contempt in peoples eyes that used to love her.  Oh people, I know that feeling.  Anyway, she touched my heart because she was speaking the truth as best she could from the daze of whatever she was on.  It's so hard for an addict to tell the truth so when they do.....high or not.....I'm not going to shut them down and act like they can not speak in a meeting.  An unruly drunk or addict is one thing but a heart that is breaking in an addict only has a few minutes sometimes before the vault closes and you can bet your life that I'm going to jump in there and show as much love as I can before the next drink, fix or pill speaks louder than any words our beautiful program can speak to her.

Enjoy your day...ole'

I feel compassion too when I run into people who are struggling. There was a lady at a recent Al-Anon meeting who was sobbing because she is alcoholic and had not thought about how her drinking affected others. I went over to talk with her and she reeked of booze. I felt great compassion but know that she needs to find her solution.
