Don't Call Me-I'll Call You

I took the day off from work yesterday and declared it "Pam Day."  No one opposed.  I spent the morning at the hair salon and my hair is now shorter than it has been since the 2nd grade when Mama "made me." I  feel so brave to have short hair!  I then went to the nail salon and got the deluxe pedicure/leg massage, then spent the entire remainder of the day on a chaise lounge in my backyard reading. Yesterday, it was good to be me.

I went to a lovely wedding shower last Sunday.  The shower was for a woman in my home group, given by a woman in the program that I don't know well, and attended by all women from the program.  The hostess (7 years sober) made a beautiful spread of food and we had a very nice afternoon.  The very next day she called her three sponsees (who were at this shower) and told them "I'm 45 years old and I want a beer."  She went on to tell them to get a new sponsor and "don't call me I'll call you."

My assessment (?) - She viewed her sobriety as a burden, a restriction instead of the biggest miracle to hit the planet on the day she got sober.  When we loose our gratitude it seems to unlock the dam to loose everything else.

Gratitude is important, but it can be so hard to hold on. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Hi, Pammie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your Pam Day sounded wonderful. A book or a magazine and a chaise lounge sounds perfect.

Best,

SB

Geez Louise! A beautiful spread of food...a very nice afternoon...she has sponsees...what the heck? Oh, and congrats on the new haircut, I remember you once posted a photo of yourself with 80's hair.

Oh Kim....never. I would not post my pic. But 80's hair ya know never goes out of style in Texas.

The sponsor-deciding-to-drink thing sucks. Big time. I would love to hear how this one plays out.

I am sorry for her. She forgot what it was like. Maybe she will remember shortly.

On the one hand I think WOW that sucks. On the other, I think ... how forward thinking of her to call her sponsees (even when trying to be kind) and tell them to get a new sponsor cause she's goin' on a beer run.

This dis-ease is fascinating. We have the choice today and sometimes, we don't see the miracles in our life that far outweigh that opportunity to drink, and obviously, if drinking looks better than not, the expeirences in memory are the good ones or aren't bad enough that hopelessness is the only thing left.
